PRESS RELEASE

CARLSBERG CELEBRATES MUSIC DIVERSITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KK JAZZ FESTIVAL

Kota Kinabalu, May 5th, 2010 – Carlsberg, the country’s No.1 most preferred beer continues to deliver value and enjoyment to discerning beer lovers. Building on its positive momentum since the launch of its signature Carlsberg Profile Pint Bottle in October last year, Carlsberg once again celebrates with local music enthusiasts by sponsoring the 2010 Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival (KKJF), which will be held at the Covered Tennis Court, Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf & Country Club, from 7pm to 11pm on 18th & 19th June 2010.

To mark the inaugural sponsorship of the KKJF, Carlsberg treated members of the media with an evening get-together of soulful jazz performances and some nice cold Carlsberg beers at the Kinabalu Yacht Club. At the media night, Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Soren Ravn announced that Carlsberg is pleased to participate in the fourth edition of KKJF as one of the sponsors.

"Carlsberg’s sponsorship in this music festival is part of its on-going initiatives in promoting lifestyle and music. We embrace the vision of the Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival in enriching the lifestyle and music standards in Kota Kinabalu. We also support the organizers’ aim to put KK in the world map of music events and tourism destination internationally," Ravn shared in his opening speech.

"Being recently honoured with two prestigious Gold awards which are the Putra Brand Awards 2010 and the annual Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards 2010, Carlsberg is undisputably the most preferred beer amongst Malaysian drinkers. We have been honoured to receive the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Award for the 11th consecutive year. By becoming part of the festival, we hope that visitors to the KKJF can enjoy the entertaining jazz performances with Carlsberg beer. There will be localized promotions with Carlsberg at entertainment outlets to be announced later where 100 entrance tickets to the KKJF will be given to the successful participants." Ravn added.

At the media night, Carlsberg Malaysia also unveiled two premium beer brands to compliment the Carlsberg portfolio for the modern entertainment trade outlets. The two premium beer brands are Erdinger Weissbier, the No. 1 wheat beer in Germany and Kronenbourg 1664 and Blanc the No. 1 premium beers in France.

Kronenbourg Blanc, with 5% alcohol content, is a refreshing fruity white beer imported directly from France. It has a distinct citrus hop taste and is available in selected outlets in Kota Kinabalu in both draught and bottles of 330ml, whilst Kronenbourg 1664 will be available in 330 ml bottles only.

Erdinger Weissbier, with 5.3% alcohol content, is a golden cloudy beer with a refreshing taste. It is available in 550ml bottles at selected entertainment outlets in Kota Kinabalu. The media evening went well as guests had a great time enjoying Carlsberg beer and the jazz performances by Fingerstyle, one of the two winners of the Sabah Jazz Talent Search 2010 and Gravity Trio, a well- known jazz group in KK.

Kota Kinabalu Jazz Festival is an annual fund raising jazz extravaganza organized by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (RCKK) with the support of the Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah (SPArKS). Staged in the picturesque Nature Resort City of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the jazz festival brings together a musical melting pot of talents from around the world.

The festival was initiated in 2007 with the aim of promoting Kota Kinabalu in the international musical scene. The inaugural event was held at the Jesselton Point, a renowned waterfront establishment in KK. By its second edition in 2008, KK Jazz Festival attracted international talents such as Greg Lyons from the United Kingdom and Denise Mininfield from the United States of America. In 2009, the festival expanded into a 2-night event, successfully drawing over 2,000 participants. Apart from promoting KK as a tourism destination internationally, the festival has also successfully raised public awareness of the local community towards such popular music genre. With a series of pre-event fringe festival and workshops, the festival is an excellent platform for learning and interaction between the local music enthusiasts and the international artists.
